And so CES starts

No comments :
CES is a place where everybody is trying to find out what everybody else knows. Especially during the first two days, before the show floor opens and when the hotels are mainly occupied by vendors getting their exhibits ready and press trying to get into press events that are already full.
This year, as last year, things look like they're going to be a bit smaller. There are no overflow exhibits in the Sands this year; everything is in the Las Vegas Convention Center, which is a bit shocking in itself. As a result, the press room in the Venetian – which is where all the initial press events take place – is pretty small. People push for chairs, sit in the hallways, and complain when the WiFi goes down under the load.
The main event, besides several early press conferences (for example, Asus unveiled its NX90 notebook, a bright and shiny multimedia system with two large speakers on either side of a widescreen display that will be available sometime this year), is CES Unveiled, where various vendors try to get some early notice. The line is, no doubt, already long, as it's the only thing all these bloggers and reporters have to do until the press conferences tomorrow. I'd better get going.
